49ers place franchise tag on Gould

Robbie Gould will be staying in San Francisco for another year.

The 49ers have signed their kicker to the franchise tag, meaning he will be playing for the team next season.

The Niners are the first team to use the franchise tag this offseason.

Gould, a 14-year veteran, was near perfect in his performance for San Francisco in 2018. He made 33 of 34 field goals and 27 of 29 extra points, with his 97.1 field goal completion percentage leading the league.

Gould spent his first 11 years in the league with the Chicago Bears before he was cut in 2016.

He then signed on with the New York Giants for part of the 2016 season and joined the 49ers two years ago.
