Sharks acquire Nyquist from Red Wings
Gustav Nyquist is heading to the San Jose Sharks from the Detroit Red Wings.
The Sharks acquired the 29-year-old winger from the Red Wings, the team announced on Sunday. Detroit received two draft picks in return for Nyquist.
"Gustav is a talented, versatile forward who plays with speed and a strong hockey sense," San Jose general manager Doug Wilson said in a statement.
"His track record of strong play and character speak for themselves and we're very excited to add him to our dressing room."
Nyquist has tallied 15 goals and 33 assists in 61 games for the Red Wings this season.
Nyquist was originally selected by Detroit in the fourth round of the 2008 draft and he had spent all eight of his NHL seasons with the franchise. He has scored 124 times in 480 career games.
The Sharks will enter play on Monday in second place of the Pacific Division with a 37-18-8 record. Meanwhile, Detroit stand at 23-31-9.
