A-League Review: Melbourne derby spoils shared after Galekovic howler
Eugene Galekovic's second-half howler gifted 10-man Melbourne Victory a 1-1 draw in the derby with Melbourne City in the A-League.
City dominated proceedings in Saturday's contest but were forced to settle for a point after their goalkeeper's 50th-minute gaffe allowed Kosta Barbarouses to level.
They took the lead in the 16th minute through Jamie Maclaren, who confidently converted a penalty he won when Georg Niedermeier bundled him over from behind to collect his second booking in the space of 126 seconds.
Maclaren has now scored in all three of his appearances for City this season but their efforts to find a second were thwarted by the post, Rostyn Griffiths' low drive hitting the right-hand upright just before half-time.
And five minutes after the interval Victory were level when Galekovic somehow let Barbarouses' tame effort from a narrow angle to squeak inside his near post.
Luke Brattan then struck the crossbar for City as they were frustrated in their search for a winner.
City stay fifth but Victory drop to third in the table, Sydney FC leapfrogging them courtesy of a 1-0 win at Wellington Phoenix earned through Adam Le Fondre's second-half spot-kick.
