Trump on Kraft charge: He's proclaimed his innocence totally
United States president Donald Trump said Robert Kraft had "proclaimed his innocence totally" following a solicitation charge.
New England Patriots owner Kraft was charged with soliciting prostitution as part of a wide-ranging probe into a Florida massage parlour targeted in a human trafficking investigation, police said on Friday.
A statement released on behalf of the 77-year-old disputed the charges, saying: "We categorically deny that Mr. Kraft engaged in any illegal activity. Because it is a judicial matter, we will not be commenting further."
Asked about the news concerning Kraft while speaking to the media at the White House, Trump revealed his surprise.
"It's very sad," Trump said. "I was very surprised to see it. He's proclaimed his innocence totally."
Kraft was one of 25 men charged after an investigation by police into the Orchids of Asia Day Spa.
Jupiter Police Chief Daniel Kerr confirmed to the media that video evidence existed of the alleged acts for all of the individuals charged.
The NFL released a statement saying it is "aware of the ongoing law enforcement matter and will continue to monitor developments".
