Machado agrees 10-year, $300m deal with Padres - reports
Shortstop Manny Machado has reportedly agreed the biggest free-agent contract in American sports history with the San Diego Padres.
Machado met with several teams in December - including the Chicago White Sox, the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies - at which point he said he was "just enjoying the ride" and would make a call on his future in 2019.
Now, the 26-year-old looks to have come to a decision, with reports suggesting he will sign a 10-year, $300million contract with the Padres.
San Diego were said to have been late to the market, but they have seemingly secured one of the most sought-after free agents around.
Machado, a four-time All-Star previously of the Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers, is a career .282/.335/.487 hitter with 175 home runs and 513 RBIs.
The two-time Gold Glove defender could play third base for the Padres rather than his preferred shortstop position, where San Diego have top prospect Fernando Tatis Jr.
