Panthers sign safety Eric Reid to three-year contract extension

Eric Reid has signed a three-year contract extension with the Carolina Panthers.

The safety is now tied to the franchise until the end of the 2021 season, though financial terms were not disclosed.

However, according to, the deal is worth more than $22million.

The 27-year-old was set to become an unrestricted free agent after wrapping up his first season with the Panthers.

The NFL Players Association filed a collusion grievance against the NFL on Reid's behalf last May when he initially went unsigned after leaving the San Francisco 49ers, having joined Colin Kaepernick in kneeling during the national anthem to protest perceived social injustice.

Reid was initially selected by the 49ers in the first round of the 2013 draft and spent the first five years of his career in San Francisco before signing with the Panthers in Week 4 of the 2018 season.

He immediately became the starter and finished with 71 tackles, five passes defended and one interception in 13 games.
