Red-hot Thiem hands Nadal rare bagel at US Open

World number one and defending champion Rafael Nadal suffered a rare bagel in the quarter-finals of the US Open on Tuesday.

Top seed Nadal had only lost a set 6-0 at a grand slam on three previous occasions – the 2015 Australian Open, 2006 Wimbledon and the 2004 US Open.

Thiem is looking to reach the semi-finals, having reached his first last-eight match outside of the French Open as Nadal seeks a fourth title at Flushing Meadows.
