Premier League transfer gossip: Man Utd 'swoop for Rebic after new Perisic snub', Barcelona 'want Mignolet', Chelsea 'target Bailey'

Jose Mourinho is in one of his moods again, which doesn't bode well when the season hasn't even started yet. The scowl the Manchester United manager wore for much of last season seems to have been carried over seamlessly into this one. Bet he was a right laugh on his summer holidays.

It's transfers that are getting Jose's goat at the moment, or more specifically a lack of them. The Red Devils have so far signed just two men – Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk and Diogo Dalot from Porto, neither of whom have left the fans purring with excitement.

The other men Mourinho allegedly wants – Harry Maguire and Ivan Perisic – are currently proving prohibitively expensive. So this has left him chasing Ante Rebic, the Croatia forward he may or may not have heard of before the World Cup started.

The Mail says United have "made contact with the people of Rebic", as if he is some kind of country. The 24-year-old would be an alternative to his compatriot Perisic, rather than an addition, although he wouldn't come cheap either.

A figure of £44m has been mooted, which would represent a decent bit of business for his club Eintracht Frankfurt, who signed him for £1.8m two months (MONTHS!) ago.

Beggars can't be choosers though, and with the Star claiming Perisic has officially "turned his back on" a move to Old Trafford, Rebic might be Mourinho's best option.

As for Maguire, the Mirror says United have "told" Leicester they want to sign the England centre-back, but whether the Red Devils will be willing to meet the £65m price tag is another matter.

Barcelona swoop for Simon Mignolet

If you enjoyed Chelsea's shock move for mediocre goalkeeper Rob Green yesterday, then you're going to love Barcelona's shock move for mediocre goalkeeper Simon Mignolet today.

Spanish paper Marca says the Catalan giants want the much-maligned Liverpool man at the Nou Camp and are set to gazump a £12m offer already on the table from Besiktas.

Barca plan to use Mignolet principally as a back-up to Marc-Andre ter Stegen, but the Belgian will still be able to tell everyone – girls, for instance – that he plays for Barcelona and that's all that matters really.

Another transaction between Liverpool and Besiktas that could still be on the cards, however, is the one that brings Domagoj Vida, yet another goddamn Croatian, to Anfield. Turkish paper A Spor (which means "a sport", probably) says the Reds have agreed terms with the 29-year-old centre-back and now just need to meet the player's asking price of £22m.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are "monitoring" Lazio's £90m-rated Serbian midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and are also set to take on Roma to sign Bayer Leverkusen's Jamaican winger Leon Bailey (Standard). Roma may be prepared to fight to the death on that one after being spectacularly snubbed by Barcelona new boy Malcom this week.

Elsewhere, Everton's director of football Marcel Brands has travelled to Barcelona to tie up the signings of defensive duo Yerry Mina and Lucas Digne (Mail), Crystal Palace are in talks to sign the West Ham and Senegal midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate for £10m (Sky Sports) and Wolves have made an £18m offer to sign Middlesbrough's 22-year-old winger Adama Traore (Sun). Which is weird, because he isn't Portuguese.
