Amazon are to show 20 Premier League matches a season for three years from 2019, it has been announced.

The US web retail giants have broken the stranglehold of Sky and BT Sport with a groundbreaking deal to livestream matches for the first time.

They have won one of the final two broadcast packages to show games from England’s top flight and for the first time a full round of fixture is to be broadcast live in an innovative move.

They will show all 10 fixtures over one bank holiday of matches and another 10 during one midweek fixture programme.

BT Sport has purchased the other remaining rights package. They will pay £90m per year for exclusive live coverage of 20 midweek Premier League matches every season.

That means from August next year, BT will be showing 52 live games per season with Sky Sports broadcasting 128 matches.

Amazon memberships costs £79 annually – and they also offer a £7.99 a month package.

In February, Sky paid £3.579bn for four packages, while BT Sport shelled out £295m on another as the pair went head-to-head.

What are the packages?

Package A – won by BT32 matches on Saturdays at 12:30

Package B – won by Sky Sports32 matches on Saturdays at 17:30

Package C – won by Sky Sports24 matches on Sundays at 14:00 and eight matches on Saturdays at 19:45

Package D – won by Sky Sports32 matches on Sundays at 16:30

Package E – won by Sky Sports24 matches on Mondays at 20:00 or Fridays at 19:30/20:00 and eight matches on Sundays at 14:00

Package F – won by Amazon20 matches from one Bank Holiday and one midweek fixture programme

Package G – won by BT20 matches from two midweek fixture programmes

Amazon are no strangers to live sport. They broadcast the US Open tennis, ATP World Tour Tennis events and also NFL games.

Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore labelled Amazon as an “exciting new partner”.

“Prime Video will be an excellent service on which fans can consume live Premier League football – including for the first time in the UK a full round of matches,” he said.
