Roberts injured in Broncos win against Eels
Brisbane Broncos' 18-10 NRL victory over Parramatta Eels on Thursday was soured by an Achilles injury to James Roberts.
The centre has been tipped to make his State of Origin debut with the NSW Blues next month but had to be replaced after an hour at Suncorp Stadium.
Jamayne Isaako and Corey Oates crossed as the Broncos made a flying start to Wayne Bennett's 800th career game as a coach.
A Mitchell Moses penalty shortly before the break reduced the deficit to 10 points at half-time but Roberts then found the space to open up a gap once more.
George Jennings ran 80 metres to give the Eels a glimmer of hope with a try after 52 minutes, before Isaako wrapped up the win with a penalty goal.
The Broncos are four points adrift of NRL leaders St George Illawarra Dragons after 12 matches, although all teams other than the Eels have a game in hand to play over the weekend.
Parramatta remain bottom with just two wins to their name.
