Sweden batter USA, Swiss roll on to gold medal match
Viktor Arvidsson was the catalyst for Sweden's 6-0 battering of the United States, while Switzerland upset the odds against Canada to reach the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship gold medal match.
Sweden kept alive their hopes of back-to-back titles by thumping America in Copenhagen.
Arvidsson was rewarded for a lively opening period, in which he had three attempts at goal, by opening the scoring and efforts from Magnus Paajarvi, Patric Hornqvist and Mattias Janmark in the second took the game away from USA.
USA pulled their goaltender which allowed Arvidsson to register his second and Adrian Kempe rounded off the rout.
In the other semi-final, Switzerland defeated Canada 3-2 marking the first time they have beaten them in an elimination game.
Tristan Scherwey, Gregory Hofmann and Gaetan Haas all scored in the memorable win, as Switzerland returned to the gold medal game five years after their last appearance where, in a neat piece of symmetry, they were beaten by Sweden.
