Pirates send Marte to DL, promote Meadows
The Pittsburgh Pirates put star outfielder Starling Marte on the 10-day disabled list with a strained oblique.
The 29-year-old has been dealing with the injury for a little while and left after one at-bat on Wednesday.
As tough as his injury may be to swallow, Pirates fans did get some fun news with his injury.
Pittsburgh announced on Thursday they have called up their number two overall prospect Austin Meadows to replace Marte on the 25-man roster.
Meadows, a sweet-swinging lefty, was in the running for the number one overall pick in 2013 before he ultimately fell to nine and the Pirates.
The 23-year-old has always been seen as a player with more potential than production, but a .294/.336/.397 line in the minors this year has the Pirates feeling confident about what he could do once again.
Meadows infamously faced off with Yankees top prospect Clint Frazier for years in Georgia as the two teens were seen as the two top high school prospects in the nation in the 2013 draft.
