Mets GM unsurprised Harvey out partying night before pitching
New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson was unsurprised by a report Matt Harvey was partying the night before he pitched in San Diego.
After Page Six reported on Monday the former Cy Young Award candidate was seen out partying and possibly inebriated the night before he pitched in San Diego, there was plenty of disappointment around the Mets' organisation.
Disappointment is the operative word because Alderson expressed little surprise when he was asked about the report.
"Usually I get upset if a report is unexpected," the Mets GM told reporters on Tuesday. "So I guess the short answer is no."
Mets manager Mickey Callaway confirmed he had spoken to Harvey about the incident, concluding it was not a big deal.
"It is bad in the sense that it's getting publicity," he added. "And Matt has to be aware of that. Things he does, right or wrong, are going to be brought to the forefront.
"And we have to make sure that it's never a distraction from what we're trying to do as a team."
