Rockies place LeMahieu on DL, activate Gonzalez

The Colorado Rockies returned one starter but lost another to the disabled list, with second baseman DJ LeMahieu set for a stint on the sidelines.

Colorado placed two-time All-Star and Gold Glove Award winner LeMahieu on the 10-day DL and activated outfielder Carlos Gonzalez prior to their MLB series with the Chicago Cubs on Monday.

LeMahieu left Friday's 1-0 win against the Miami Marlins with hamstring tightness after an awkward slide in the third inning.

The 29-year-old is hitting .290 with five home runs and 12 RBIs in 27 games for the Rockies this season.

Gonzalez landed on the disabled list after injuring his hamstring against the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 18.

He was hitting just .235 in 20 games prior to the injury. Gonzalez has been named to the National League (NL) All-Star team three times, most recently in 2016.

Colorado, who have opened 2018 with a 15-14 record, are in the middle of a nine-game road trip.
