Diamondbacks place Ray on 10-day DL
The Arizona Diamondbacks announced All-Star starting pitcher Robbie Ray has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right oblique.
On Monday, Arizona recalled pitcher Silvino Bracho from the Triple-A Reno to take Ray's place on the roster.
Ray, a National League (NL) Cy Young contender last season after going 15-5 with a 2.89 ERA and 218 strikeouts in just 162 innings pitched, is off to a rocky start in 2018 (2-0, 4.88 ERA).
The Diamondbacks became the first NL team in 111 years to open the season with nine straight series wins, and are just one game behind the Boston Red Sox for best record in MLB.
With Taijuan Walker already out for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, the Diamondbacks can ill-afford to lose another starter long term.
