Charnley hat-trick sends Wolves into seventh heaven
Josh Charnley scored a hat-trick as Warrington Wolves dispatched of Huddersfield Giants 38-4 to claim a seventh successive Super League triumph on Friday.
The former Wigan Warriors winger followed up his four tries in the Challenge Cup victory over Bradford Bulls last week with another three to keep Warrington's impressive run of form going.
Charnley raced in for the opening score following a lovely offload from Wolves captain Ryan Atkins, who was making his 250th appearance for the club, before Stefan Ratchford and Tom Lineham responded to Darnell McIntosh's solitary effort for the visitors.
A quickfire double from Charnley widened the gap in the second half and Warrington cruised home as Harvey Livett and Joe Philbin got in on the act after Ratchford's second.
The Wolves remain two points behind second-place Wigan, who fought from behind to overcome Widnes Vikings for the second time this season.
Shaun Wane's side rallied from 16-0 down to triumph when the teams met in March and they overturned a 14-point deficit this time around.
Tom Gilmore missed a conversion to draw Widnes level with six minutes remaining and Taulima Tautai helped clinch a 32-24 victory with a strong carry in the closing stages.
Castleford Tigers bounced back from defeat to Wigan last time out with a 24-4 beating of rivals Wakefield Trinity.
