Barba cleared of serious injury in huge boost for St Helens
Ben Barba avoided a serious injury in St Helens' rout of Salford Red Devils on Thursday, providing the Super League leaders with a huge boost.
The star full-back scored a hat-trick - taking his tally for the season to a league-leading 15 - in the 60-10 victory at the AJ Bell Stadium but left the pitch on a stretcher and in a neck brace, having landed awkwardly while attempting to offload to Regan Grace.
Barba, who quickly clutched at his left shoulder, was examined at hospital and deemed not to have suffered any serious damage, a view backed up by Saints' medical staff.
A club statement read: "Saints are pleased to report that after being cleared of any serious injury at hospital last night [Thursday], Ben Barba has now been given the all clear by the club's medical staff.
"Ben, who scored a hat-trick in the victory, will continue to be monitored by the medical team here over the next few days.
"The club and Ben would like to thank everyone who has sent best wishes overnight and this morning; your messages show how close knit the rugby league community is."
