Brewers' Thames placed on DL with torn thumb ligament
The Milwaukee Brewers' lineup was dealt a significant blow as first baseman Eric Thames was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a UCL tear in his right thumb.
Milwaukee announced the move on Wednesday.
Thames is tied for seventh in MLB with seven home runs this season. Since coming over from the KBO League last year, the 31-year-old has smashed 38 home runs in 160 games.
Brewers general manager David Stearns said he expects Thames to miss a significant portion of 2018 and surgery is likely.
The first-placed Brewers recalled pitcher Brandon Woodruff from Triple-A in a corresponding move.
