Former Commonwealth javelin gold medallist Jarrod Bannister has died at the age of 33, it has been announced.
The Australian won gold at the Delhi Games in 2010, and his throw of 89.02 metres, recorded in Brisbane in 2008, remains a national record.
"On behalf of Athletics Australia, I extend our deepest condolences to Jarrod's family and friends and urge the athletics fraternity to support each other at this difficult time," said Athletics Australia CEO Darren Gocher.
Sally Pearson, an Olympic gold medallist in the 100m hurdles at London 2012, was among those to express her condolences.
"R.I.P Jarrod Bannister. A talented athlete with so much more to give. You will be missed," she wrote on Twitter.
