Many people have had to leave work early to attend the birth of their child, and that was a scenario encountered by Warrington Wolves captain Chris Hill on Thursday, albeit in more high-profile fashion than most.
The skipper was withdrawn during the Wolves' Super League opener against Leeds Rhinos, which they lost 16-12, after his wife - watching from the stands at the Halliwell Jones Stadium - was taken into labour.
Hill escorted his wife to hospital, where the couple are expecting their fourth child.
"Chris' wife has gone straight into labour, so it is what it is," a smiling Wolves coach Steve Price told Sky Sports.
"That's no excuse [for losing]. We had a team out there who were very confident they could get a result tonight, but it wasn't to be."
