Estudiantes and Strasbourg close on last 16

Estudiantes and Strasbourg closed in on a spot in the round of 16, while AEK Athens also stayed alive in a packed FIBA Basketball Champions League Group C.

In a pool in which five teams are still battling for just three remaining top-four places, Estudiantes earned a huge 78-73 win at home to Banvit - who are already through.

Goran Suton was the hero for the hosts, who led 32-10 after the first quarter, finishing with 25 points, 12 rebounds and three assists. They are just one win behind Banvit with one round of the regular season to play.

Strasbourg join the Madrid side on 8-5, having beaten rock-bottom Rosa Radom 98-81, Zack Wright putting up 15 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds en route to securing a sixth straight win.

Athens are a game behind, but ensured they are still in contention with an 80-71 victory at Petrol Olimpija, new signing Vince Hunter - waived by the Memphis Grizzlies this month - recording 20 points.

Ventspils needed a win in Group B and delivered with a 79-68 triumph at Capo d'Orlando - a victory that puts them into the top four.

Besiktas are guaranteed top spot in Group D thanks to a 95-79 win over Bonn, while Zielona Gora boosted their chances of qualifying after earning a narrow 85-82 win over Nanterre.

In Group A, for which the play-off places are finalised, Oldenburg ran out 77-73 winners at Juventus, and Sassari routed Hapoel Holon 103-92.
