Chung posts picture of grim foot injury after Aus Open retirement

Hyeon Chung's dream run to the semi-finals of the Australian Open ended in injury heartbreak against Roger Federer on Friday.

The South Korean delighted fans in Melbourne over the past fortnight, defeating the likes of Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic en route to the last four.

But Chung cited a badly blistered "red raw" foot after retiring when trailing 6-1 5-2 to the legendary Federer, who will go for grand slam number 20 against Marin Cilic on Sunday.

And Chung showed the extent of his injuries via a post on Instagram with an accompanying caption that read: "Tonight, I tried very hard to bring my utmost energy to the tennis court as usual.

"However, I had to make a tough decision given that I cannot compete 100 per cent against Roger, in front of many tennis fans. Please understand. I wish all the best luck for @rogerfederer in the finals."
