Edmonton Oilers forward Patrick Maroon has been suspended for two games for interference on Drew Doughty, the league announced on Wednesday.
Maroon hit Doughty in the head with his shoulder late in the second period of Edmonton's 5-0 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday.
Doughty, a Kings defenseman, was behind his own net when Maroon hit him.
Doughty's team-mate, Derek Forbort, stepped in to fight Maroon, who was given a game misconduct penalty and a fighting major.
Doughty briefly left the game but was not upset with Maroon.
"I've known Maroon for a long time," Doughty told reporters.
"He's just trying to finish a hit. I don't know that he meant to try and hurt me. I forgive him."
