76ers rookie Fultz enters final stages of return-to-play programme

Philadelphia 76ers rookie Markelle Fultz has entered the final stages of his return-to-play programme, the team said in a medical update issued on Tuesday

Fultz, selected first overall by Philadelphia in the 2017 NBA Draft, played just four games this season before being shut down with a shoulder injury. The rookie is averaging just six points per game.

The Sixers have endured a string of bad luck with recent high first-round picks, with Fultz joining Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid as young players who missed significant time as rookies.

The team's update read: "Philadelphia 76ers guard Markelle Fultz has been cleared to begin the final stage of his return-to-play programme.

"The programme consists of gradual re-integration into team practices and training, complemented with additional conditioning work to support fitness readiness for gameplay."

However, there is still no timetable for Fultz's return to game action.
