Scarlets and Wales wing Evans banned for four weeks

Steff Evans will miss the remainder of the Scarlets' European Champions Cup Pool 5 campaign after being handed a four-week ban.

The Wales wing was sent off late in the first half of his side's dramatic 12-9 win over the Ospreys in Pro14 on Boxing Day for taking out Ben John in the air.

Evans, who made his international debut against Tonga in June, will miss Pro14 clashes with Cardiff Blues and the Dragons as well as Champions Cup games against Bath and Toulon.

The Scarlets sit third in their group on 12 points, one behind each of their upcoming opponents.

"The Disciplinary Panel...concluded that the player's actions merited a mid-range entry point, which carries an eight-week suspension," read a Pro14 statement.

"In making this decision the panel took into account all of the circumstances, including the vulnerability of the player and the seriousness of the injury sustained.

"The ban was reduced after full mitigation of 50 per cent was applied having taken into account the player's conduct throughout the process, his good character and the presentation of his defence to the disciplinary panel."
