Kohli rested for Sri Lanka T20s, Bumrah in line for Test debut
Sri Lanka are probably sick of the sight of Virat Kohli, so confirmation the India captain will be rested for the upcoming Twenty20 matches will come as welcome news for the tourists.
Kohli has tormented the Sri Lanka bowlers during the ongoing Test series, racking up scores of 104 not out, 213 and 243 in his last three innings.
It was announced last week that Kohli would not be considered for the trio of one-day internationals that follow the Tests and he will play no part in the three T20s, which are set to begin in Cuttack on December 20.
Rohit Sharma will lead the squad - including the uncapped Washington Sundar, Deepak Hooda and Basil Thampi - while Jasprit Bumrah is in line to make his Test debut after being included in the 17-man party to tour South Africa in the new year.
The seamer has made a name for himself in white-ball cricket with his ability to take wickets at an economical rate at either end of the innings. Wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel earns a recall, having last featured against England a year ago.
India will play three Tests against the Proteas, starting in Cape Town on January 5.
