Discarded England batsman Westley suffers injury blow
Discarded England batsman Tom Westley will fly home from Australia on Wednesday after suffering a finger injury during a Lions match against a Queensland Select side.
Westley missed out on a place in the Ashes squad due to a lack of runs against South Africa and West Indies.
The number three endured another setback in the three-day match at the Allan Border Field, sustaining an injury to the middle finger on his left hand which is likely to result in surgery.
Ben Langley, the England and Wales Cricket Board's lead physiotherapist, said: "Given what we suspect about the injury, we think it's important to get Tom back to a specialist in Leeds as soon as possible to have a further scan and then for any surgery that's necessary."
Wicketkeeper-batsman Ben Foakes, brought into the side to get time in the middle as he serves as understudy to Jonny Bairstow, made 67 on day two with England head coach Trevor Bayliss and batting coach Mark Ramprakash watching on.
Keaton Jennings scored 89 and Tom Curran, called up to the Ashes squad to replace the injured Steven Finn, also got some game time.
