Garbine Muguruza has celebrated her impending elevation to the world number one spot with a show of patriotism alongside compatriot Rafael Nadal.
Muguruza will rise to the summit on Monday despite being knocked out of the US Open in the fourth round, and posted a picture on Twitter of her and the men's world number one proudly holding the Spanish flag.
Alongside the picture, Muguruza tweeted: "Very proud to share such a special moment for our country with @RafaelNadal, the best role model #1s."
This year's Wimbledon champion rises to the top spot after Karolina Pliskova was knocked out in the quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows by Coco Vandeweghe.
It's the first time that Muguruza will have held the top spot, and she said: "I'd never be in this position without the help of my family, my team and my fans and like I said before, it's a dream come true.
"Hopefully I can keep this up as long as possible."
