Johnson takes clubhouse lead at TPC Boston

Updated:

Dustin Johnson made an impressive start to his bid for a second win in as many weeks by taking the clubhouse lead in the Dell Technologies Championship.

Johnson beat Jordan Spieth in a play-off to win The Northern Trust last week and the world number one carried his momentum into round one at TPC Boston.

He carded a five-under-par 66 to head the leaderboard, sitting one shot clear of Kyle Stanley and Marc Leishman.

Having started at the 10th, Johnson made the turn in 31 thanks in part to an eagle at the 18th. He subsequently bogeyed the first, but birdied two of the next three holes and did not drop another stroke.

Playing partner Spieth went one over for his opening round, while US PGA champion Justin Thomas finished level par.

Sergio Garcia was well in contention shortly after making the turn, the 2017 Masters champion sitting just one shot off the summit, having started on the back nine.
