Fabio Fognini's winning run on the ATP World Tour came to an end on Friday at the hands of Philipp Kohlschreiber, who is now one win away from winning the Generali Open for the second time on home soil in Kitzbuhel.
Fognini won last week's Swiss Open Gstaad and extended his streak of victories by beatin Miljan Zekic and Thomaz Bellucci to make the last four in Austria.
However, the second seed was second best in his semi-final as Germany's Kohlschreiber - a resident of Kitzbuhel - triumphed 7-5 6-3.
The winner of the Generali Open in 2015, Kohlschreiber will now face Joao Sousa, who got the better of wildcard Sebastian Ofner in two tie-breaks.
There were only two breaks of serve in Sousa's 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-4) victory over Ofner, occurring in succession at the start of set two.
Kohlschreiber won his most recent meeting with Sousa, on the Halle grass in June, but the pair have never previously faced off on clay.
