Longoria hits for cycle after overturned call
Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria needed a double and the help of video review to hit for the cycle against the Houston Astros in MLB on Tuesday.
In the ninth inning, Longoria hit a line drive to left field. He attempted to leg-out a double to reach the rare feat, but he was called out after stellar throws by outfielder Derek Fisher and shortstop Marwin Gonzalez.
After a video review, Longoria was ruled safe at second, giving the Rays their second cycle in club history.
Longoria started things off with a two-run homer in the first inning, then added a triple in the third, and single in the seventh.
He finished four for five with three RBIs and two runs scored in the Rays' 6-4 win.
Longoria joins Wil Myers, Trea Turner, Carlos Gomez, Nolan Arenado, and Cody Bellinger as the only players to hit for the cycle this season.
