Diamondbacks starter Ray leaves game after getting hit in head

Updated:

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Robbie Ray was removed from Friday's game against the St Louis Cardinals after being struck in the head in the second inning.

Ray had struck out two batters in 1.5 scoreless innings before a line drive from Luke Voit knocked him out of the game.

The Diamondbacks said updates will be provided as the evaluation process unfolds, though he was "alert" as he was sent to hospital for tests.

Ray, who is 9-5 with a 3.11 ERA and 151 strikeouts this season, was able to give thumbs up before exiting the stadium.
