The New York Jets claimed former Dallas Cowboys wideout Lucky Whitehead off waivers.
The third-year wide receiver was released by the Cowboys on Monday after a Virginia court issued a warrant for his arrest stemming from a shoplifting charge on June 22, but police dropped the charges after admitting he had been a victim of mistaken identity.
With an offseason of legal drama, the Cowboys apparently wanted to make an example of Whitehead and released him only to find out he had actually been on a flight from Dallas to Washington, D.C., that landed about 10 hours after the alleged incident took place.
The Jets confirmed their move for Whitehead on Wednesday, while they waived Devin Street.
Whitehead, 25, had a combined nine catches for 64 yards in his first two seasons in Dallas.
