Bertens beats Kontaveit to make amends in Gstaad

Kiki Bertens made up for the disappointment of defeat in last year's final by beating Anett Kontaveit 6-4 3-6 6-1 to win the Ladies Championship Gstaad on Sunday.

Second seed Bertens, ranked three places below world number 32 Kontaveit, lost in three sets to Swiss Viktorija Golubic 12 months ago.

This time she came out on top in a decider that also went the distance, the Dutchwoman beating her Estonian opponent in just under two hours on clay at Roy Emerson Arena.

Victory in the WTA International tournament marks a fourth career triumph for the 25-year-old, who did not give up her serve after the fourth game of the second set, and broke Kontaveit twice in the third before sealing the triumph with her first match point.
