Nine years on from finishing fifth as an amateur in a stunning Open Championship debut, Chris Wood was able to enjoy another magical moment at Royal Birkdale on Friday.
At five over for the tournament, Wood appeared in danger of missing the cut as he played the 18th hole in his second round.
However, the Englishman duly finished with a flourish, sensationally holing his second shot on the closing hole for an eagle that was greeted with a huge roar.
Wood's spectacular shot ensured he was almost certain to make the cut at three over, with heavy rain having arrived to provide an even sterner challenge for the afternoon starters already forced to deal with gusting winds.
Jordan Spieth and Brooks Koepka were five under in the early stages of their second rounds, with Matt Kuchar one shot back and safely in the clubhouse following an impressive 71.
