Wolves head into Middle 8s on high after Widnes win

Updated:

Warrington Wolves scored 18 unanswered second-half points to go into the Super League Middle 8s on a high as they beat Widnes Vikings 22-6.

The local rivals will each face games with Catalans Dragons and Leigh Centurions and the top four Championship clubs to ensure their top-flight status, but it is last year's Grand Finalists Warrington who will go in to that challenge with momentum.

Widnes led 6-4 at half-time after Joe Mellor weaved his way under the posts, but Warrington took charge after the restart.

Peta Hiku scored his first try since moving from Penrith Panthers and Kevin Brown - who joined Warrington from Widnes in the close-season - went over before Matty Russell crossed for his second try to wrap up a third successive win.
