The Open Social Diary: Fans flock to Rahm at Birkdale before heavens open
The players competing at the 146th Open Championship were given a preview of the conditions expected to come this weekend, as the final practice round was eventually suspended due to the threat of storms.
The heavens opened in the late afternoon at Royal Birkdale and, though it is expected to stay dry on the opening day, rain and wind are anticipated on Friday and Saturday.
But there was plenty on offer for the spectators before play was called to a halt and the Omnisport team was forced to find shelter, with Kevin Na's ace at the 14th a highlight for the crowds.
Masters champion Sergio Garcia and Jon Rahm - considered among the favourites for the Claret Jug following his dominant Irish Open triumph - attracted plenty of attention from those in attendance.
Rahm took the time to sign autographs after his day's work in Southport, while Rory McIlroy, Jason Day and world number one Dustin Johnson were among those to face the media.
