Rider killed in Barcelona endurance race

A rider has been killed in a motorcycle crash at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya, just a year following an incident that claimed the life of Moto2 racer Luis Salom.

Enric Sauri was competing in a 24-hour race at the track - Les 24 Hores de Catalunya de Motociclisme - when he veered off at turn one and collided with the barriers.

A statement from the circuit revealed the Motos Gaspar rider sustained "multiple critical injuries" from which he died after being transferred to Granollers General Hospital.

"The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya deeply regrets the loss of Enric Sauri and conveys the deepest condolences to his family, friends and team," read the release.

"In tribute to the rider, the podium ceremony will be held without champagne and a minute of silence will be observed."

Salom, 25, was killed during practice for the Catalunya Grand Prix in June last year after coming off his bike at turn 12.
