Flying ants invade Wimbledon

The ants are on the move... and they've decided to take in a spot of tennis at Wimbledon while they're at it.

Flying Ant Day sees hordes of the critters take to the skies to start new colonies and occurs when local temperature, humidity and wind speed are suitable.

It was a glorious day in London on Wednesday and the All England Club had to put up with scores of unexpected - and unwelcome - guests.

Players on all courts were left using their rackets to swat away the insects as they attempted to focus on the task at hand, with Wimbledon sharing a video of one particular ant's aborted take-off.
