Astros rookie Paulino suspended 80 games for positive PED test

Updated:

Houston Astros pitcher David Paulino has been handed an 80-game suspension after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug.

Major League Baseball announced the ban on Saturday, with Astros rookie Paulino having tested positive to Boldenone.

The Astros have been hit hard this year in their starting rotation and Paulino's ban is another blow.

Dallas Keuchel, Lance McCullers, Charlie Morton and Collin McHugh have all spent time on the disabled list this year while Joe Musgrove has been poor.

While Paulino has not been great this year for the Astros he has been a good enough bandaid in the rotation while Houston wait for Keuchel, Morton and McHugh to come back from the DL.

The 23-year-old pitcher now puts the Astros in a tough spot as Keuchel remains on the DL and Morton and McHugh are still rehabbing from their injuries.

The logical guess for his replacement will be Musgrove, who threw seven innings of shut-out ball in his lone start in Triple A this week.
