Minella Bol Open defence ended by Cadantu
Bol Open defending champion Mandy Minella suffered a shock defeat to Alexandra Cadantu in the semi-finals on Saturday, with Aleksandra Krunic also progressing to the final.
Minella, the top-ranked player and only seed remaining in the competition, looked on track to defend her crown at the clay-court event, but Cadantu proved too strong and won 6-2 7-5 to reach her second career WTA final and first since 2012.
The 27-year-old Romanian will play Krunic in Sunday's final after the Serbian, who is also hunting her first title, knocked out Beatriz Haddad Maia in the other semi-final.
Krunic came from behind in spectacular fashion and won the last 10 games of the match to beat Brazil's Haddad Maia 1-6 6-2 6-0.
