Blue Jays stars Donaldson, Tulowitzki nearing returns

Stars Josh Donaldson and Troy Tulowitzki are close to returning for the Toronto Blue Jays.

After a dreadful start to the MLB season, Toronto have won seven of their past eight games and are close to getting two of their best hitters back from injury.

Manager John Gibbons said Monday on MLB Network that shortstop Tulowitzki should be activated from the disabled list before Wednesday's game against the Atlanta Braves.

Tulowitzki (hamstring), has been out for more than three weeks, but he was able to play a simulated game Sunday.

Gibbons also said Donaldson should be back in the lineup "by the weekend". Donaldson has not played since April 13 due to a calf injury.

The Blue Jays got starting pitcher Aaron Sanchez back from recurring blister issues Sunday, and he allowed just one unearned run in five innings.

Finally healthy, the Blue Jays (17-21) could be ready to challenge for the American League (AL) East title.
