The Chicago Cubs placed outfielder Jason Heyward on the 10-day disabled list Monday with a sprained finger in his right hand, retroactive to May 6.
Heyward, 27, is batting .253 (25-for-99) with three home runs and 17 RBIs in 28 games this season.
Right-handed pitcher Dylan Floro has been recalled to take Heyward's roster spot.
Heyward suffered the injury diving for a ball during Friday's game against the New York Yankees, and failed to recover as the team had hoped.
In an unrelated move, the Cubs also acquired minor league right-handed pitcher Justin Hancock from the San Diego Padres for outfielder Matt Szczur.
Hancock, 26, is 24-29 with a 3.91 ERA in 116 career minor league appearances.
Szczur was designated for assignment on Saturday. He batted .243 (82-for-338) with eight homers and 40 RBI in 202 games covering four seasons with the Cubs.
