Coors Field covered in blanket of hailstones before Rockies face Cubs

Updated:

Near golf ball-sized hailstones were falling in Denver and covered Coors Field just hours before the Colorado Rockies were set to host the Chicago Cubs.

Maybe Mother Nature thought the Cubs needed some extra rest.

After losing an 18-inning game to the Yankees on Sunday at Wrigley Field in Chicago, the Cubs travelled to Denver for a three-game series against the Rockies.

There was not much for pregame warmups as a massive hail storm left Coors Field covered in a blanket of near golf ball-sized hailstones just hours before the scheduled first pitch.

The hail looked more like a sheet of snow than a blanket of hailstones.
