Coates re-elected as AOC president

John Coates was re-elected as Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) president on Saturday.

Coates, 66, was challenged by Danni Roche, but won a vote 58 to 35 at the annual general meeting.

He has been president since 1990 and a vice-president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 2013.

"Thank you very much for the confidence you've shown in me," Coates said afterward.

It was the first time Coates' position had been challenged since he took over 27 years ago.
