Penguins star Crosby hurt by cross-check to head

Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby was shaken and headed for the dressing room after taking a hit from Matt Niskanen.

It was not long before Monday's game three between the rival Penguins and Washington Capitals took a turn for the ugly.

Barely five minutes into the first period, Crosby took a cross-check to the head from Washington defenseman Niskanen.

The Pittsburgh captain was cutting across the goal crease and falling to the ice when Niskanen made contact.

Crosby was shaken up and went to the Penguins locker room for evaluation.

Niskanen was assessed a five-minute major for cross-checking and a game misconduct.

Crosby, who has a history of head injuries, has 11 points in seven playoff games as the Penguins hold a 2-0 lead in the second-round series.
