San Francisco Giants All-Star Buster Posey was placed on the seven-day disabled list on Tuesday, a day after the catcher was hit in the helmet by a fastball.
Posey dropped to the ground after getting beaned by Arizona Diamondbacks starter Taijuan Walker, but the Silver Slugger and Gold Glove award winner was able to walk to the dugout under his own power after an evaluation from the training staff.
The 30-year-old four-time All-Star and three-time World Series champion, who has suffered a concussion in the past, said he felt fine after the incident but it is unlikely for concussion-like symptoms to appear days later.
Giants infielder Joe Panik was placed on the disabled list last season for delayed concussion symptoms while Brandon Belt missed 34 games after returning too soon from a 2014 concussion.
Tim Federowicz was called up with the corresponding roster move and will back up Nick Hundley behind the plate.
