Sergio Garcia wins Masters in play-off with Rose

Sergio Garcia finally ended his painfully long wait for a major title by getting the better of Justin Rose in a play-off to win the Masters.

On the 60th anniversary of Seve Ballesteros' birth, Garcia finished a thrilling final round level with Rose on nine under after missing a five-footer to take the title on the last.

However, a birdie on his return to the 18th ensured Garcia became the third Spaniard - after Ballesteros and Jose Maria Olazabal - to claim a green jacket, the 37-year-old's triumph a hugely emotional one after 22 previous top-10 finishes in majors without tasting success.
