Banned Singleton let his team-mates down - McDermott

Updated:

Leeds Rhinos coach Brian McDermott says Brad Singleton has "let his team-mates down" following a hefty suspension for striking an opponent with his elbow.

Singleton slammed his arm into Greg Bird during last Friday's 46-10 Super League win over Catalans Dragons, with the prop pleading guilty and landing a six-match ban.

McDermott conceded there was no excuse for Singleton's actions and said the 24-year-old would need individual training to prepare for his return next month.

"We will be without Brad for the next six weeks after he was suspended on Tuesday night," McDermott told the Rhinos' website.

"He pleaded guilty as he knew the extent of his careless tackle and that type of incident has no place in the modern game.

"Brad has been a stand-out [player] for us so far this year, but last Friday he let his team-mates down.

"We will now put Brad into a mini pre-season so he can be in good shape on his return should he get picked in the team after his suspension."
