Sometimes you've got to be kicked in your nuts - McDermott retains faith in Rhinos

Brian McDermott insists last week's humiliating defeat to Castleford Tigers did not alter his belief that Leeds Rhinos are capable of winning this year's Super League Grand Final.

The Rhinos - treble-winners in 2015 but well off the pace last term - suffered a 66-10 defeat at the Jungle, but bounced back superbly on Friday to beat Catalans Dragons 46-10.

After the victory over Catalans, Leeds head coach McDermott said: "I believe we can win the Grand Final and I believed it last week.

"On that performance [against Castleford], there and then, I'm not going to say, 'ooh, we can win the Grand Final'. I actually ran it by Phil [the Rhinos' head of media] before I went into the Cas media and he said 'no, wind your neck in, it's not the platform to do it'."

McDermott added: "Sometimes, and experience tells you this, you've got to be kicked in your nuts to find out the best of you. And [from] last week we've still got a certain amount of bruising around our groin area.

"You need all those. Now we probably don't need the 66 points and [the win over Catalans] doesn't write off last week. It still hurts, we're still embarrassed by it, but I've got the best job in the game. I've absolutely got the best job in the game and part of that best job in the game is dealing with the losses.

"Tonight [Friday] was a good night but we've got to knock about another 10 versions of tonight together."
